Hirono and Lingle now even

In the Mother of All Surges, Hawaii's Hirono (D) has overcome a large deficit to tie Republican Lingle in the latest KITV4 News/Star-Bulletin Poll.

Both candidates get 40 percent of the vote, with 18 percent undecided, who break out thusly:

Democratic Views - 35%
Republican Views - 7%
No Affiliation - 46%
Hirono trailed by as much as 15 points over the summer, but is now poised to take Hawaii's governor's mansion. It seems Hawaii's heavily Democratic electorate isn't quite ready to go Republican just yet.
