Monday | July 22, 2002 Oklahoma Senate seat in play Further evidence that the Republicans are in serious trouble in the 2002 elections. Sen. Inhofe is only 7 points ahead in the lates poll. That despite the fact that his likely Democratic challenger is somewhat of a sleaze, having faced 20 indictments tied to the financing of his successful gubernatorial campaign in 1990. The challenger, David Walters, has received little media coverage or financial support, but that may change if he can stay close to Inhofe. Any time the GOP has to play defense in a supposedly safe seat (such as OK or TX), that's less money they can pour into vulnerable Dem states (such as MN, MO, or SD). And a strong Democratic challenge for the Senate seat could also help the Democrats retake Watts soon-to-be-vacated House seat. Posted July 22, 2002 09:02 AM | Comments (2) |
