Tuesday | August 06, 2002 Republican financiers back Davis Knowing a loser when they see one, business interests in California have shifted their donations from Republican candidate Simon to Gov. Davis. Davis has raised over $50 million, and has over $31 million at hand. Simon has raised $22 million ($5 million coming from his own bank account), and has about $5 million at hand. $5 million is clearly not enough money to wage an effective California campaign, especially since the GOP's traditional donor base has cast its lot with the governor.
