Tuesday | October 08, 2002 Oklahoma guv race competitive There is probably no greater endangered species today than the "safe" governor. From Hawaii to Florida, and just about every race in between -- races that should've been long over thanks to the partisan makeup of those states are still competitive four weeks prior to the election. The lastest guv race to raise eyebrows is Oklahoma's where former football star Steve Largent was expected to run away with the open Republican seat. Yet the latest poll on the race has largent with only a 6 point lead, 45-39, over his Democrat opponent Brad Henry. Largent should still win this race, but it's still symptomatic of the havoc the economy is playing on incumbent parties. Remember, Iraq is not an issue in gubernatorial campaigns, placing the economy (along with education) front and center. Posted October 08, 2002 08:19 AM | Comments (0) |
