The Trent Lott Republicans

Despite the Cardinal Law resignation, the Lott story seems to be fronting most big newspapers this morning (as well as lead off most newscasts last night). But despite all the calls for Lott to step down, it looks as though the Republican Party establishment is happy with him as their leader. So, can there be any doubt that the GOP is held hostage to its southern racist wing?

The hell with "San Francisco Liberal". As many recommended in yesterday's comment boards, it's time for "Trent Lott Republicans". Every controversial judge will be a "Trent Lott judge." Lott will own every conservative bill the majority leaders tries to steer through his chamber. This is his party now. Lott has shown that he can say whatever he wants and get away with it. The rest of his party fears him and the people he represents.

Even President Bush.
