Reid could succeed Daschle

Two top Senate Democrats have started jostling for the minority leader job -- indication perhaps that Daschle will run for president?

Both Reid and Dodd have lobbied hard for the job the past few days, with Reid claiming tentative victory.

However, Reid's staff claims they were only responding to Dodd's efforts to curry support, and claim they have no idea why Dodd is lobbying for the job. In other words, they have no indication Daschle will step down. Dodd's people are saying their guy's efforts were just "hypotheticals" -- testing the waters in case Daschle stepped down.

So does that mean that Dodd is more interested in the Senate leadership than a presidential run? Of course, now that Reid seems to be next-in-line to Daschle, he may be more compelled to give the presidency a shot after all.
