Thursday | January 16, 2003 Lean Mean Dean Machine? Talking about Howard now, not John. This today from the Howie Kurtz spin cycle: Howard Dean must be taking off faster than we thought! He's in second place in a New Hampshire poll, with 15 percent to John Kerry's 27 percent (followed by Joe Lieberman at 6, Dick Gephardt at 5 and John Edwards at 4). Yes, Dean is a Vermonter, but for a guy who's raised little money, he's moving faster than even he thought, as this Boston Globe piece explains. I guess Dean's move to bring in the high-priced New York talent, such as our own Joey Dee, is already paying dividends. But let's remember that Dean's ONLY prayer is a strong showing in N.H. So I view this more as bad news for John Kerry than good news for Howard Dean. As a top-tier candidate, Kerry can't afford to lose the expectations game in N.H, especially since there would be little time to recover from the ensuing media stomp circle before the Super Tuesday tidal waves break. Better hurry with those face muscle implants, John. Billmon
