Abortion legislation cleared for passage

The Senate defeated two attempts to "weaken" legislation banning the so-called Late Term Abortions.

Interestingly enough, both attempts to ammend the legislation were designed to make the bill more palatable to the Supreme Court, including an exception for the health of the mother.

To be clear: the GOP, so seeped in ideology that it can't bear to consider the welfare of the people at stake with this legislation, doesn't give a damn about the health of the mother. Ideology has trumped medicine:

The legislation declares that a ban on the procedure would "advance the health interests of pregnant women seeking to terminate a pregnancy."
Wow. Who needs doctors anymore?

And seriously, why the hostility to an exemption for the mother's health? Is it because ALL late-term abortions are performed in order to protect the mother's health? Hmmm....
