Tuesday | April 15, 2003 Fitzgerald won't defend Illinois Senate seat Illinois senator Peter Fitzgerald, a Republican in an increasingly Democratic state, will not seek reelection in 2004. Fitzgerald was by far the most vulnerable GOP incumbent in a Senate election year clearly favoring the Republicans. Fitzgerald's withdrawl clearly helps his party's chances in Illinois.
