Friday | May 02, 2003 Jobless rate hits 6 percent Bush's War on the Economy continues unabated, ringing up continued successes on multiple fronts. Indeed, the key indicator of his success -- the unemployment rate -- rose to 6 percent, up from last month's 5.8 percent. The rise was precipitated by yet another month of mass job loss, as 448,000 new jobless claims were filed last week. Anything above 400,000 causes a rise in the unemployment rate. Bush's able leadership has given us 11 straight weeks over the magic 400,000 line. The next month will be real interesting, as Bush's promised "war boost" on the economy will either materialize or fail to make an appearance. We'll know which soon enough.
