Friday | May 09, 2003 Edgar out in Illinois Everyone breathe a sigh of relief -- former Illinois governor Jim Edgar, despite please from Bush/Rove, will not run for Senate in 2004. The Democrats were headed for an easy pickup in Illinois until the Edgar speculation began. Opinion polls showed the popular former Republican governor with solid 15 point leads over his closest rival (though much of that was high name ID). In any case, Edgar's decision to sit out the race pulls Illinois back into the "likely Dem" column -- a designation in short supply this coming election.
