Senate protects overtime rules

The Senate, led by Democrats and six Republicans, voted to halt Bush's efforts to eliminate overtime for a large number of low-wage workers.

Zell Miller voted with Bush.

The House has already given its stamp of approval on Bush's proposal, meaning the House/Senate conference committee will somehow have to reconcile the issue.

The Republicans voting to protect the overtime rules were: Campbell (CO), Chaffee (RI), Murkowski (AK), Snowe (ME), Specter (PA), and Stevens (AK).
